advanced equipment
Dr. Shah and Dr. Frohn are firmly committed to providing our patients with the best and most advanced technology. Not only are our doctors able to practice at the highest level of their profession, but our patients are deserving of the best.
We use the most sensitive instrumentation to detect eye problems at the earliest. We also set baselines for EVERY patient against which later observations, images and calculations are compared. Minute changes are detected earlier and treatment can be implemented or adjusted sooner. We include parts of our advanced technology testing in our comprehensive examination and without tacking on additional fees to our patients.
Here's a sampling of some of the technology implemented in our office. You'll see a lot more when you come in for an eye exam.

Zeiss Auto Refractor / Auto KeratometerOur Zeiss auto refractor is fully computerized and it detects our patient's glasses / contact lens prescriptions objectively by determining how a light changes when it enters their eyes.
Our doctors, Dr. Shah and Dr. Frohn then take this information as a starting point, then refine your prescription to ensure you'll love your new vision with your glasses and contact lenses. The auto keratometer function built in to this machine also measures the unique corneal curvature of each individual patient allowing us to fit the most advanced custom contact lenses for your eyes rather than one size fits all.

The Reichert Non-Contact Tonometry (NCT)The Reichert Non-Contact Tonometry (NCT) is Dr. Shah and Dr. Frohn's preferred method of assessing a patient's intraocular pressure (eye pressure). This is an excellent and valuable method of screening for high eye pressures which may be associated with glaucoma. In most cases, our patient's eye pressure can be obtained with a very light "air puff."

In certain circumstances, other methods of assessing one's eye pressure (via Goldmann tonometry) can also be performed at the doctor and patient's discretion.
Humphrey FDT Visual Field Analyzer / Glaucoma Test
At Dr. Shah & Dr. Frohn Optometry, our doctors use a newer and much more advanced technique in evaluating our patients' visual fields or peripheral vision. Using the Frequency Doubling Technology (FDT), we are able to detect visual field losses that are very specific to certain eye conditions. The examination can be completed at nearly half the time of a standard visual field analyzer.
Studies have shown that this particular method of visual field assessment is highly effective in detecting early glaucoma damage and various ocular and neurological disorders. Brain abnormalities such as those caused by strokes or brain tumors can affect the visual field. In fact, the location of the stroke or tumor in the brain can frequently be determined by the size, shape, and site of the visual field defect. |
Topcon Retinal Camera - Retinal Photography
Did you know that retinal images are a great tool in the early detection of multiple retinal and systemic diseases? A retinal exam can detect diabetes, hypertension, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other diseases. Many of these conditions will progress through several stages before they can affect your eyesight. With retinal photography and imaging, we are able to screen for early signs of retinopathy (bleeding in the eye). When diagnosed early, various advanced treatments will be available to help us manage these ocular and systemic conditions.

Topcon Slitlamp
The Topcon slit lamp exam is an instrument that provides a magnified, three-dimensional (3-D) view of the different parts of the eye.
During the exam, Dr. Shah & Dr. Frohn can look at the the front and the back of your eye to determine if you have cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration (ARMD), and various other eye diseases. |
HRT Glaucoma Module
Using this advanced technology that detects, glaucoma at the earliest stage when it is most easily treatable -- even up to 8 years in advance -- before it sneaks up on you!
It is also used to follow up on glaucoma treatment and for the early detection of glaucoma in relatives of glaucoma patients.
